Privacy Policy

The Canadian Film Centre (the "CFC") and Mind Pirate (“Mind Pirate”) sometimes collectively referred to as Us, We or Our) respects your right to privacy and is committed to meeting the privacy standards established by federal and applicable provincial laws.

All users who visit or use (the "Site") in order to i) apply to participate in the CFC ideaBOOST/ Mind Pirate Production Lab (the "Program"); and ii) merely visit the Site without applying to the Program agree to the terms of this privacy policy and agree that this privacy policy will be applied to all use, collection and disclosure of Your information by the CFC.

We will identify and document the purpose for which personal information is collected at or before the time such information is collected. You are required to provide true, current, complete and accurate personal information and We may reject and delete any entry that We believe at our sole discretion, in good faith to be false, fraudulent, or inconsistent with this privacy policy.

The policy set forth below applies only to the Site and administration of the Program. The purpose of this privacy policy is to inform You about the types of information we gather when You visit the Site, how we may use that information, and how we disclose it to third parties. Your continued access to, use of or participation in the Site indicates Your acceptance of this privacy policy and of the collection, use, disclosure, management and storage of Your personal information as described below.


Personal Information - At various locations on the Site, We may request that You supply us with "personal information" such as Your name, email address, website, home or work telephone number. You will know when We are collecting personal information because We collect personal information only when You voluntarily submit it to us through Our online forms, prompts, applications and questionnaires. Although You do not have to provide us with any information to visit the Site, You may not be able to fully utilize all of the services on the Site if You choose not to provide certain information. If You do choose to give Us personal information through the Site, We will collect and retain that information for the purposes of administering the Program which may involve disclosure of such information to the public worldwide. Any information or content that you voluntarily disclose in public areas on the Site becomes publicly available and can be viewed, collected and used by others. This visible public information and content may be archived on the site in a static format and may remain available to the public at large as archived information including after completion of the Program application process. Personal information that is not archived will be deleted upon the completion of the Program application process.

Non-Personal Information  - When You use the Site, we may also collect "non-personal information." We consider "non-personal information" to be information that, by itself, cannot be used to identify or contact you personally, such as demographic information (your age, gender, income, education, profession, postal code, etc.). Non-personal information may also include technical information, such as Your IP address, the type of browser You are using, the sites You visit immediately before and immediately after You visit the Site, and other anonymous or anonymized data involving Your use of the Site. Non-personal information may also include information that You provide Us through Your use of the Site, such as the terms You enter into the search functions of the Site. We reserve the right to use or disclose non-personal information in any way We see fit.

Cookies  - may use "cookies" to enhance Your visits to the Site. A cookie is a small amount of data that is sent to Your browser from a web server and stored on Your computer's hard drive. Cookies do not store personal information about You, unless you knowingly provide it. Cookies can store non-personal information, such as what the Sites, pages, or advertisements your browser has accessed. We may use cookies to store information and personalize Your experience with the Site. For example, cookies allow the Site to recognize Your browser as a previous visitor, and thus save and remember any preferences that may have been set while You were previously browsing the Site.


Our Services and The Site  - We may combine personal information We collect online with information available from other sources, including information received from our sponsors, Program partners, affiliates, marketing companies, or advertisers. We may share Your personally identifiable information with third parties solely for the purpose of administering the Program. We may store your personal information in locations outside of Our direct control. We may use the personal or non-personal information We collect to analyze how the Site is being used, and to improve the content of the Site.

Email Communications  - If You provide Your email address via the Site We may share your email address with select Program participants and may use your email address and/or personal information to communicate with You for the purpose of the Program. It is not Our standard practice to send You email unless you request a particular service that involves email communications or You otherwise consent to being contacted by email.


Aggregate Information  - Except as specifically set forth in this Policy, We do not share Your personal information with any non-affiliated third party without your permission. We may disclose aggregate information, such as demographic information, and our statistical analyses to third parties, including advertisers or other business partners. This aggregate information has been anonymized and does not include Your personal information.

Service Providers  - We sometimes engage unaffiliated businesses to assist us in providing You certain services. For example, We may use third parties to facilitate our online services. In those instances, We may need to share Your personal information with them. We require these companies to use Your personal information only with respect to the administration of the Program and do not authorize them to use Your personal information for any other reason.

Other Disclosures  - We may disclose personal information when we are required or requested to do so by law, court order or other government or law enforcement authority or regulatory agency; to enforce or apply Our rights and agreements; to defend ourselves against any third party claims or when We believe in good faith that disclosing this information is necessary or advisable, including, for example, to protect the rights, property, or safety of Our users, or others.


The Site is not designed for use by children and children are not eligible to participate in any way the Program. We ask that anyone under the age of eighteen not submit any personal information through the Site. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children, and therefore we do not knowingly distribute such information to third parties.


The Site may contain links to other websites. We have no control over the privacy practices or the content of any of our business partners, advertisers, sponsors or other websites to which we provide links from the Site. When You use a link to go from the Site to another website Our privacy policy is no longer in effect and the CFC will not be liable for any use of Your personal information on other websites. Please check the applicable privacy policy of any website before proceeding.


The security of Your personal information is important to Us. We maintain commercially reasonable physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to secure Your personal information. However, there is always some risk in transmitting information electronically. The personal information We collect is stored within databases that We, or select unaffiliated third parties retained by the CFC and governed by this privacy policy, control. As We deem appropriate, We use security measures consistent with industry standards, such as firewalls and encryption technology, to protect Your information. However, We cannot guarantee or warrant the security of Our databases, nor can We guarantee or warrant that information You supply won't be intercepted while being transmitted to Us over the Internet. Personal information transmitted is at Your own risk.


You can help Us maintain the accuracy of Your profile by notifying Us when You change postal code, country of residence, age range, or email address.

After receiving a request to change your information, we will make reasonable efforts to ensure that all of your personal information stored in databases we actively use to operate the Site will be updated, corrected, changed or deleted, as appropriate, as soon as reasonably practicable. However, we reserve the right to retain in our archival files any information we remove from or change in our active the Site databases. We may retain such information only as long as is necessary to resolve disputes, troubleshoot problems and enforce our terms and conditions of use. This Policy is effective as of October 1st, 2013. We reserve the right to change this Policy at any time, and will post any changes to this Policy as soon as they go into effect. Please refer back to this Policy on a regular basis.
